Efforts of Lady Gaga

Lady GAGA in Portland, Maine

Lady Gaga is one of the most captivating stars of our time. I have been following here efforts to repeal the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy from the military. She recently held a speech in Portland, Maine in order to bring awareness to this important issue. I love how opinionated she is and the lengths shes willing to go to in order to say her two cents. I really don't think that some people take her serious because they believe that her and her gang of loyal fans, known as her little monsters, are secretly out to make the world a more gay place! This is not the case!! She wants equality for all and if that means she has to exploit herself to do it, she's willing to go there. Gaga uses her celeb status to get through to people about how serious this issue actually is. I feel that it is important for gaga to help the repeal of DADT, because people listen to her music and LOVE HER STYLE!! I already know that all of her little monsters and other openly gay celebs are right behind her on her journey to equality in the military. She's a woman on a mission, and the mission is the repeal of DADT. If you would like to see GAGA in action please watch this link of the star advocate.

  1. Even though im not a fan of Lady Gaga I still think that what she has done is pretty amazing. The thing thats amazing is her music because it has a lot of meanings. With that being said she is in no place to say that the "Dont Ask Dont Tell" policy is wrong. This policy lets gays serve in the military. The only reason why they have this policy is so that many im sorry but homophobics in the Army dont beat on the gays and so that it wont her the moral of troops deployed. I know this because my Dad's been in the militray before I was even born and I've talked to many people in the military and they dont wont gay men serving. They dont really mind that lesbians because most of the time they are more masculine in they army. Lady Gaga should stay with music and stay out of politics.

  2. yes I agree with you that her music is bomb! but the only thing she wants is equality for all. Being told to hide your true self amoung your "brothers" is wrong. Im pretty sure your farther has servered next to a gay male, but he didnt know it. And the only reason straight men get so bothered by it is because they think every gay man wants them...this is not how it works. In the line of fire. the sexual orientation of the person fighting next to you shouldnt matter. Gaga may not be this great politian but Ive done my research and she speaks the truth! Her celeb status just brings more public attention to the issue. GAYS DESERVE RIGHTS! And when this bill passes to let gay men openly serve in the military, itll be the gay MEN who step up to the plate. Not the homophobic "straight" BOYS.

  3. I'm not exactly sure were I stand on the "DADT Policy" because i can see it from different poin to views. On one hand I can see why Lady Gaga is trying to appeal the DADT policy. She wants everyone to be equal and she wants gays to freely express their true selves. Gaga doesnt want homosexuals to hide how they truly feel on the inside. I admire her for standing up and speaking out on the situation but Gaga is a pop phenomenon and serious politics may not take her seriously. Especially if they've seen some of her performances and the way she dress. I think Gaga is a great musician and i think her way of dress is retro and cool, but someone in the political world, is sure to think differently.

My second view on the DADT Policy is that it can actually be a good thing for gays. It can protect them against heterosexual "homophobes". Getting rid of the DADT Policy may stir up unnecessary violence in the military. And instead of everyone being united in the military as brothers, the homosexuals and the heterosexuals might segregate themselves from each other. In military everyone is suppose to stand side by side, they have to protect one another, if the men and women in the military segregate, the military will fall to pieces and it will not be as powerful. Some homosexuals may actually like the policy it keeps their buisness and personal life seperate. According to (http://www.capecodtoday.com/blogs/index.php/2010/10/11/why-the-generals-like-don-t-ask-don-t-te?blog=226) Why Generals Like:Dont ask Dont tell,"Each member in the unit must be able to rely on every other member to have his back.", if the heterosexuals only have the heterosexuals backs and the homosexuals only have the homosexuals backs, the whole one man, one army phrase will crumble.

  4. Courtney thank you for your reply. Yes Gaga is a huge pop star, but thats her job. I will admit, when i first heard about her going on with this DADT repeal I was kind of shocked. But if you really listen she knows her stuff. Yes its in place to help protect homosexuals, but we don't want to be forced back into the closet anymore. If you look up the Stonewall Riots you will see that the gay community is a resilient community and we can take anything the world is preparing to throw our way.
