I had to create a second blog as I could only have 100 authors per blog. Please give your blog a title to let a reader know what the blog is about.

Celebs & Their DADT Efforts
In my last two posts I centered around celebrities bringing this unjust law to the forefront in the media. Different stars like Lady Gaga and Russell Simmons are shining light on this issue in their own way. In this continuation, I want to give my feedback on what difference their efforts are ACTUALLY making. Or if they are making any strides at all. President Obama has stated that the repeal of the DADT policy WILL end under his watch, however he wants the congress to repeal the law and not the courts. DADT was ruled unconstitutional earlier this month by a California federal judge. Then two days after recruiters were told they were allowed to let openly gay soldiers sign up for active duty, the defense department pulled out stating the DADT policy is "back in force and effect". I would like to see more action from the president. Yes, I know we are in the midst of a recession and a war, but what happened to the days were the president could do more then one thing at a time? I wonder if the president has even seen lady gaga's video addressing the senate or Russell Simmons' letter. This is a national issue, we do not have equality for all and until we do, we will not give up until gays are appreciated in every facet of life.

Okay I know a gay man the served in the Navy. This person was my English 11 teacher. He was a very good man I would'nt be bothered to serve next to him and I'm pretty sure most men in the navy would'nt either. The people stepping up to the plate right now for the army are people that have no other option and are usually not that smart. It would be so hard for the military to seperate gays just like women. They would not know if they should be placed in combat units because it could affect the way other soilders think. The army has really dum people and their mostly young. The DADT policy protects gays and lets them serve. I don't hate gay people, I really don't because my grandfather was gay and the best english teacher that I had in high school was also gay. Most higher ranked officals in the military believe DADT is a policy that needs to stay because they've been around and know how enlisted soilders think and act. When it comes to DADT its the military's buisness and they need to deal with it not a Judge in California or a Celebirty. People outside the military have very little knowledge about what goes on in warzones and on bases overseas. Hopefully one day DADT will go away but its too soon. With this war going on this issue does not need to be adressed now there are bigger issues. Give it time when everyone learns how to treat everyone as equals and not different then gays should be allowed to serve openly. DADT is to protect homosexuals and not to discriminate against them.
ReplyDeleteTo me its not the gay people that are the problem. Its about how some carry them selves which is the problem. Some men walk around dressed like girls an stuff which is a distraction to society. For instance, little kids see to men in the mall holding hands or walking around with a purse it makes some kids believe that it is the right way to live. Also, who is gonna reproduce if the world starts participating in the same sex thing. It'll be a large drop in production of children. So do i believe this gay rights should be showed as much attention as it is getting, no because it is not what god wants an its not the way of life that are ancestors have showed us.
ReplyDeletefirst off.. Chad I totally feel where you are coming from. I get that it is in place to protect them from the ignorant soldiers out there. I believe it will take some time for this policy to come to an end and it will have a huge back lash because people are afraid of change. I really appreciate your point of view, I just wish we weren't all as small minded as Shakir. We are an evolving people. There is a such thing as artificial insemination, read a book. Walking around with a purse is not how every gay man chooses to live their life but for the ones who do, MORE POWER TO YOU! After all, who wants to be like our ignorant ancestors? They believed the world was flat and that slaves were property. Thats not the kind of person I would want to follow around. Gays have fought through a lot to get where we are today, I see no sign of my community slowing down.
